Prior to the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk Stadium, teammate Marcus Stoinis confirmed that Maxwell sustained the injury during a training session before their last game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He indicated that Maxwell is likely out for the entire tournament.
In light of Maxwell's absence, PBKS has brought in all-rounder Suryansh Shedge and opted to field only three overseas players in their playing eleven.
At the toss, captain Shreyas Iyer expressed his disappointment over Maxwell's injury, stating, "It's unfortunate that he has a fractured finger. We haven't finalized any replacements yet, but we believe in our team's strength and the depth we have outside our playing XI. We have a diverse group of players capable of winning matches, and we will stick to that approach as much as possible."
Stoinis reiterated the severity of Maxwell's injury, saying, "Unfortunately, Maxi has broken his finger. He sustained the injury just before the last game during training. Initially, he thought it wasn't serious, but it turned out to be quite severe. After undergoing scans, the results were not favorable, so it seems likely he will be out for the tournament."
Maxwell's performance in the tournament has been underwhelming, with only 48 runs in six innings, his highest score being 30, along with four wickets taken with his off-spin. In the match against KKR, he managed just seven runs off eight balls. He was acquired for Rs 4.2 crore during last year's mega auction.
